The Arch of Galerius, known locally as the Kamara, rises over the intersection of Egnatia and Dimitriou Gounari streets as a cluster of heavy brick piers wrapped in marble panels. Built between two hundred ninety-eight and three hundred five AD, this Roman triumphal arch once served as a ceremonial gateway spanning the ancient Via Egnatia. It formed the northern entry to an expansive imperial precinct that linked the emperor’s palace to the Rotunda.
