Church of the Acheiropoietos

religious

The Church of the Acheiropoietos is a massive, three-aisled basilica built between four hundred fifty and four hundred seventy. It is one of the oldest surviving churches in the world, distinguished by its original high walls and a heavy, timber-roofed profile that has persisted through centuries of changing city life. Located on Agias Sofias Street, the structure is founded directly upon the ruins of an ancient Roman bath complex.
