Aladja Imaret (Ishak Pasha Mosque)

The Aladja Imaret, or Ishak Pasha Mosque, is identifiable by its distinctive inverted T-shaped floor plan and the two large, lead-covered central domes that rise over its prayer hall. Commissioned in fourteen eighty-four by the Ottoman statesman Ishak Pasha, the building originally served as both a place of worship and an imaret, or charitable kitchen, that provided free meals to the poor, students, and travelers.
