Latomos Monastery - Holy Church of Hosios David

The Church of Hosios David, also known as the Latomos Monastery, is a small, late fifth-century Byzantine structure set in the Upper City of Thessaloniki. It is recognizable by its compact, square plan and its weathered exterior, which hides a history of dramatic transformation. Originally built as a monastic catholicon, the site was later converted into a mosque during the Ottoman period, surviving for centuries under layers of plaster that obscured its ancient art until its reconsecration as an Orthodox church in nineteen twenty-one.
