Bedesten of Thessaloniki

The Bedesten of Thessaloniki is a rectangular stone building defined by its six lead-covered domes, which rise above the surrounding modern street level at the intersection of Venizelou and Solomou streets. Built during the reign of Sultan Mehmed the Second in the fifteenth century, this structure functioned as an Ottoman market hall, designed specifically to provide a secure environment for the trade of high-value goods like silk, gold, and precious jewelry.
