Platia Eleftherias

Platia Eleftherias, or Liberty Square, is a trapezoidal open space located near the waterfront of Thessaloniki. Formed in eighteen seventy after the demolition of the city's coastal walls, it served for years as the primary maritime gateway for travelers arriving in the city by boat. The square takes its name from the nineteen oh eight Young Turk Revolution, which saw proclamations for equality delivered to crowds gathered on this site.
