The Museum of Byzantine Culture features a low-profile, contemporary concrete structure designed by architect Kyriakos Krokos to evoke a quiet sanctuary. Opened in nineteen ninety-four, the building resulted from a nationwide architectural competition held in nineteen seventy-seven. Its eleven permanent galleries follow an upward, spiraling path, organizing exhibits that span centuries of history.
