Nea Agora

The Nea Agora, or New Market, is a seven-sided building near Mandraki Harbor that you can identify by its round domes, white facade, and distinctive Arabic-style arches. Built by the Italian administration in the late nineteen twenties, it was designed by the architect Florestano di Fausto to replace the older, informal bazaar. Its layout centers on a large, open-air courtyard that once served as the city’s primary fish and produce market, acting as a structural hinge between the historic walled city and the modern town.
