Established in nineteen sixteen, it was created through public subscriptions to honor Kharshedji Rustomji Cama, a Parsi scholar and social reformer who died in nineteen oh nine. The institute houses a massive archive of over thirty thousand books, journals, and manuscripts in languages including Avesta, Pahlavi, Persian, and Arabic.
