Basanta Cabin is recognized by its vintage wooden interiors and the modest, partitioned seating that defines Kolkata’s historic cabin culture. Established in nineteen thirty-one by Basanta Kumar Roy, it began as a simple breakfast spot serving tea, toast, and water poach on College Street. The establishment provided early patrons with semi-private cubicles, a layout that historically offered a discreet space for students, intellectuals, and revolutionaries to gather away from public view.
