G. C. Laha Private Limited is recognizable by its Victorian chequerboard floors, which have served artists in Kolkata since nineteen oh five. Founded by sixteen-year-old Girindra Coomar Laha, the shop emerged from a family tradition of paint-making. It eventually became the first Indian firm to receive approval as a direct dealer of art materials from the London-based company Winsor and Newton.
