Place Seffarine is defined by the sharp, rhythmic ringing of hammers against metal, a sound that has filled this small square for centuries. It takes its name from the coppersmiths, the Saffarin, who have maintained their workshops here since at least the sixteenth century. Tucked against the southern side of the Qarawiyyin Mosque, the square sits near the Bou Khrareb River, serving as a historic hub for the city’s metalworkers.
