Bryggen

You will recognize Bryggen by the row of tall, narrow wooden buildings with sharply pitched roofs that lean against the harbor of Vågen. These structures are painted in vivid, sun-bleached shades of red, yellow, and white, their facades crowding together along the waterfront. This is the oldest district in Bergen, established around the year one thousand and seventy as a center for the trade of stockfish, or dried cod.
