Fredriksberg Fortress

Fredriksberg Fortress occupies the highest point of the Nordnes peninsula, defined by a sheer cliff face that drops toward the sea on its western side. Built to secure the city following the Battle of Vågen in sixteen sixty-five, this military fortification was named for King Fredrik the Third. Dutch engineer Henrik Ruse directed its initial construction beginning in sixteen sixty-six, though the project stalled for decades before a revitalization in sixteen ninety-five led to its completion by seventeen oh six.
