Old Town Hall

The Old Town Hall, or Gamle Rådhus, is a gray stone building at Rådstuplassen distinguished by a painted, false window on its second floor. This visual trick dates back to a time when glass was expensive, forcing owners to simulate architectural features they could not afford to construct. Built in fifteen fifty-eight as a private residence for the city governor Christoffer Valkendorf, the structure transitioned into municipal use between fifteen sixty-one and fifteen sixty-eight.
