St. Florian’s Church is defined by its two prominent towers topped with onion domes, which rise above the northern end of Jan Matejko Square. This building stands on the site of an earlier Romanesque church founded in the late twelfth century to house the relics of Saint Florian, a fourth-century martyr. Legend holds that the original location was chosen after the oxen pulling the saint's relics from Rome stubbornly refused to move any further, an event taken as a sign to establish the church on that exact spot.
