The Elkar bookstore on Fermin Calbeton Kalea in the Old Town of San Sebastián sits on a street known for its social life, yet it carries a distinct history rooted in the preservation of the Basque language and culture. It traces its origins to nineteen seventy-six, when the Jaka brothers opened the Bilintx bookstore here shortly after the death of dictator Francisco Franco.
