The Haus der Kantone sits behind a dignified, nineteenth-century facade on Speichergasse. Completed in eighteen ninety-three, the building originally housed the Swiss Federal Patent Office. Between nineteen oh two and nineteen oh seven, Albert Einstein worked here as a third-class technical expert, using his time at a desk within these walls to formulate his theory of relativity.
