The Cobweb Palace

The Cobweb Palace was a legendary waterfront saloon that sat at the end of Meiggs Wharf, extending into the bay from the foot of Francisco Street. Opened in eighteen fifty-six by an eccentric butcher named Abe Warner, the establishment earned its name from the thick, dusty curtains of spiderwebs that Warner refused to clear, allowing them to drape over the rafters and walls for decades.
