Crissy Field

Crissy Field is identifiable by the two historic airplane hangars with the name Crissy Field painted in large letters across their roofs. Once an ancient salt marsh used by the Ohlone people, this site was filled in during the eighteen seventies and later transformed into the United States Army’s first Air Coast Defense Station on the Pacific coast. It officially took its name in nineteen nineteen to honor Major Dana H. Crissy, who died while attempting a cross-country demonstration flight.
