The Christopher Alexander Bench is a three-tiered masonry structure located on a pier at the Fort Mason Center, positioned to overlook Alcatraz Island. It is identifiable by its unique, non-traditional form, which includes an octagonal centerpiece and panels decorated with hand-set terrazzo tiles depicting flowers, geometric patterns, and animals. The bench sits in a quiet, secluded nook between the historic firehouse and the edge of the water.
