Bennett Rice Mill Facade

The Bennett Rice Mill facade stands at the center of the Union Pier Terminal, a solitary, three-story brick wall rising from the industrial waterfront. Commissioned in eighteen forty-four by former South Carolina Governor Thomas Bennett, the structure was originally a steam-powered facility built to process the rice that once fueled the Lowcountry economy. Its architecture, featuring Classical Revival details and Palladian windows, earned it recognition as one of the finest industrial buildings of the nineteenth century.
