Hibernian Hall is marked by a massive, white-painted Greek temple front, featuring six tall Ionic columns that support a broad pediment. Completed in eighteen forty-one, this building was designed by Philadelphia architect Thomas Ustick Walter to serve as a grand meeting place for the Hibernian Society, a benevolent organization founded in eighteen hundred and one to support Irish immigrants in Charleston.
