Joseph Manigault House

museum

The Joseph Manigault House at three hundred fifty Meeting Street is recognizable by the small, domed gatehouse that stands near the entrance to its formal garden. Built in eighteen hundred three, this three-story brick home was designed by the amateur architect Gabriel Manigault for his brother Joseph, a wealthy rice planter and lawyer. The house features a distinctive parallelogram shape, with a projecting stairwell bow and wide, offset porches designed to capture cooling breezes.
