Marion Square is a ten-acre rectangular park in the heart of downtown Charleston, marked by its expansive open green space and the presence of historic monuments, including a small, iron-fenced slab that serves as a remnant of an eighteenth-century fortification known as the Horn Work. Bounded by Calhoun, Meeting, Tobacco, and King Streets, the land has shifted through various roles since it was first conveyed to the colony of South Carolina in seventeen fifty-eight.
