The Union Station Nashville Yards is distinguished by a towering, heavy-stone facade built in the Romanesque Revival style, topped by a dramatic two-hundred-and-twenty-foot clock tower. Completed in nineteen hundred, the structure was designed by engineer Richard Montfort as a grand terminal for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. It served as a primary gateway to the city for eighty years, with passengers passing through its limestone arches until the last train departed in nineteen seventy-nine.
