The Adolphus Hotel rises twenty-two stories above Commerce Street, recognizable by a silhouette modeled after the turrets and towers of a Germanic castle. This Beaux-Arts structure opened on October fifth, nineteen twelve, and for a full decade, it held the title of the tallest building in Texas. Adolphus Busch, the founder of the Anheuser-Busch company, commissioned the hotel to bring a level of European luxury to Dallas that the growing city had never seen.
