South Brisbane Memorial Park is a triangular green space defined by a secluded grove of banyan trees and pink porphyry stairs that descend toward wrought iron memorial gates. Established in nineteen twenty by the South Brisbane Municipal Council, the park sits on a ridge once known as Gibraltar. This rocky outcrop was originally viewed as an eyesore, but local residents campaigned to transform the site into a place to honor those who died during the First World War.
