The Regent Building on Queen Street Mall is recognizable by its five-storey facade, which serves as the surviving entrance to what was once one of Australia’s grandest cinema complexes. Built between nineteen twenty-eight and nineteen twenty-nine, the structure stands as the remnant of a lavish "picture palace" designed in a Hollywood-inspired style. While the massive original auditorium was demolished in the late nineteen seventies to make way for smaller cinemas, the building retained its ornate entrance hall and grand foyer.
