Queensland Cultural Centre

The Queensland Cultural Centre is defined by its series of repetitive, geometric concrete forms and expansive open plazas. This modernist complex stretches along the south bank of the Brisbane River, housing the Queensland Art Gallery, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Queensland Museum, and the State Library of Queensland. Architect Robin Gibson won a nineteen seventy-two competition to design the precinct, which was constructed in stages between nineteen seventy-six and nineteen ninety-eight to serve as the state's central hub for the arts.
