Anzac Square is home to a circular, sandstone Shrine of Remembrance featuring eighteen columns that represent the year nineteen eighteen. Dedicated on Armistice Day in nineteen thirty, this site was established as Queensland’s official war memorial, funded by the contributions of a public grieving the losses of the First World War. At the heart of the colonnade, a bronze urn holds an eternal flame.
