The Treasury Building occupies an entire city block, defined by its massive, four-story sandstone walls and Italian Renaissance design that stretches between Queen, George, Elizabeth, and William streets. Its most distinctive feature is its immense scale, standing as the largest nineteenth-century government building in Australia. Construction of this complex began in eighteen eighty-six and lasted for forty-two years, spanning three distinct stages until its final completion in nineteen twenty-eight.
