The Adelaide Railway Station is defined by its massive sandstone façade and the Free Classical Beaux-Arts style that anchors it to North Terrace. Completed in nineteen twenty-eight, the building was the centerpiece of a sweeping modernization of the state railway system. It was envisioned by the American railway commissioner William Alfred Webb, who sought to transform South Australian rail travel into a model for the rest of the country.
