Victoria Square

Victoria Square, known also as Tarntanyangga, is the central point of Adelaide's city grid. You can identify the square by the bronze statue of Queen Victoria standing in its center, as well as the tall flagpoles where the Australian flag and the Aboriginal flag fly side by side. Designed by Colonel William Light in eighteen thirty-seven, this space was intended as the city’s primary recreational area, though it spent its early years as a dusty paddock before the city began planting trees and building paths in the eighteen fifties.
