Bonython Hall

Bonython Hall is defined by its massive, imposing Gothic Revival facade of Murray Bridge limestone, which stretches prominently along North Terrace. Completed in nineteen thirty-six, the building stands as the ceremonial centerpiece of the University of Adelaide, created through a generous fifty-thousand-pound donation from the newspaper proprietor Sir John Langdon Bonython. During the Great Depression, the project provided essential employment for hundreds of local workers.
