Pioneer Women's Memorial Garden

The Pioneer Women's Memorial Garden is defined by a central limestone sculpture of a female figure, standing at the heart of a simple rectangular space enclosed by a low decorative brick wall. Conceived for the South Australian centenary in nineteen thirty-six, the site was designed by landscape architect Elsie Cornish and officially opened on April nineteen, nineteen forty-one. The garden project was funded by women who raised over six thousand pounds, a portion of which also helped build the Royal Flying Doctor Service base at Alice Springs.
