The Grenfell Centre is a stark, rectangular tower rising one hundred and three meters above Grenfell Street. Its dark, monolithic appearance earned it the nickname the Black Stump, a term that has become a familiar, if unofficial, name for the structure among locals. Completed in nineteen seventy-five, the building held the title of Adelaide’s tallest structure for twelve years until it was surpassed in nineteen eighty-seven.
