The Melbourne Hotel sits at the corner of Hay and Milligan Streets, a large, three-story building defined by a parapet that hides its roof behind decorative classical motifs. Constructed between eighteen ninety-three and eighteen ninety-seven, it remains one of the few elaborate gold rush era hotels still standing in Perth. The building features a distinctive Federation Free Classical style, a choice that reflected the intense confidence and economic growth of the city during the late nineteenth century.
