Gate of Harmonious Interest

The Gate of Harmonious Interest spans Fisgard Street, recognizable by its bright red and gold colors and a traditional tiled roof that reaches thirty-eight feet in height. As the entrance to Canada’s oldest Chinatown, the structure represents a partnership between the City of Victoria and the local Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association. It was first built in nineteen eighty-one, with the design overseen by urban planner Mickey Lam to mark the revitalization of the neighborhood.
