Steamship Terminal

The Steamship Terminal is a Neo-Classical building on the Inner Harbour defined by a row of thirteen Ionic columns and carvings of the Greek sea god, Poseidon. Completed in nineteen twenty-four, the structure served as the gateway for the Canadian Pacific Railway to manage the heavy flow of passengers and cargo arriving by steamship. Architects Francis Mawson Rattenbury and Percy Leonard James designed the terminal to resemble an ancient temple, complete with sculpted tridents and dolphins to signal its maritime purpose to everyone arriving by sea.
