Thunderbird Park

Thunderbird Park is a green space defined by a collection of towering totem poles and Indigenous monuments situated at the corner of Belleville and Douglas streets. Established in nineteen forty-one, the site began as a conservation effort by the provincial museum to house carvings that were deteriorating in remote coastal villages. The park is named after the mythological Thunderbird, a powerful figure depicted on many of the poles, which represent the artistic traditions of the Gitxsan, Haida, and Kwakwakaʼwakw peoples.
