Fisherman's Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf is distinguished by its collection of brightly painted, floating homes clustered along the wooden docks of Victoria’s harbour. Established by the federal government in the late nineteen forties to support the regional commercial fishing fleet, the site originally consisted of six branch floats designed for vessel moorage and modest live-aboard shelters. For decades, the area operated as a rugged industrial hub where fishers unloaded herring and salmon, frequently navigating a lawless environment of noisy disputes and limited regulation.
