Fontaine de Tourny

The Fontaine de Tourny rises nearly seven meters in the air, a complex structure of cast iron basins and twenty-six bronze figures that dominates the space directly in front of the Parliament Building. The fountain features flowing water from forty-three jets, with its base displaying four figures representing rivers, while higher tiers show allegorical images of navigation and fishing. It was originally designed by French sculptor Mathurin Moreau in eighteen fifty-three and earned a gold medal at the Paris World’s Fair in eighteen fifty-five.
