Quartier Petit Champlain sits at the foot of the massive cliff known as Cap Diamant. It is defined by its narrow, pedestrian-only cobblestone streets and stone houses with steep roofs, all huddled in the shadow of the heights above. This area is recognized as one of the oldest commercial districts in North America, with a history tracing back to the earliest years of the seventeenth century. Originally a simple path leading to a fountain, the neighborhood evolved into a working-class hub for fishermen and shipbuilders before sliding into decline by the mid-twentieth century.
