The Musée de la civilisation occupies a full city block in Old Quebec, where its modern exterior of grey limestone and copper roofing blends into the surrounding historic district. Designed by architect Moshe Safdie and opened in nineteen eighty-eight, the building is recognizable for its large foyer that links two distinct exhibit halls and connects the city's upper and lower levels.
