Prescott Gate is a pedestrian bridge built into the historic fortification system of Old Québec. It occupies the site of a former defensive gateway that was originally constructed in seventeen ninety-seven and named for Robert Prescott, who served as Governor-General of Canada. While the original structure included a guardhouse and served as a tactical connection between the Upper and Lower Towns, the gate was demolished in eighteen seventy-one when the city began removing its narrowest fortifications to accommodate increasing traffic.
