The Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury is defined by its massive stone façade, twin towers with conical roofs, and a central arched gateway that echoes the appearance of a medieval French castle. Architect Eugène-Étienne Taché designed the building in the late nineteenth century to house the Voltigeurs de Québec, Canada’s oldest French-speaking reserve infantry regiment. Completed in eighteen eighty-eight, it was the first structure in Quebec City to feature the Château style, a design choice intended to emphasize the region’s historic roots.
