Place Royale

Place Royale is a cobblestone square defined by the stone facade of the Notre-Dame-des-Victoires church, which has stood near the center of the plaza since sixteen eighty-eight. This space marks the precise spot where Samuel de Champlain built his first Habitation in sixteen oh eight, creating a fort, trading post, and residence that formed the first permanent French settlement in the Americas.
