Escalier Casse-Cou

The Escalier Casse-Cou is a steep, fifty-nine-step staircase built in sixteen thirty-five that cuts directly through the cliffside of Quebec City. It acts as a primary link between the Upper Town at Côte de la Montagne and the historic Rue du Petit-Champlain in the Lower Town. Its current iron structure, which replaced an older wooden version, features three distinct flights that accommodate shops and restaurant terraces on its landings.
