Maison Jean-Baptiste-Chevalier

Maison Jean-Baptiste-Chevalier is a thick-walled stone residence with a steep roof and dormer windows that stands as a primary example of New France domestic architecture. Completed in seventeen fifty-two for the shipowner and merchant Jean-Baptiste Chevalier, the building was situated directly on the riverfront at the time of its construction. This strategic location allowed Chevalier to dock his ships and load or unload various goods for his import-export business directly in front of his home, which also functioned as a warehouse for his trade.
